SWM Fund a Hospice Nurse

When the North Devon Hospice began in 1984, they provided care and support in people's own homes. Although a lot has changed since then, one thing remains very much the same…the vast majority of people prefer to spend their final days in their own home. The Hospice to Home team support those wishes where possible, and travel the length and breadth of North Devon, visiting people in their homes, to provide round-the-clock end of life care. Sometimes this involves extra support for carers, but it can also give family and carers more opportunity to spend meaningful time with the person who is unwell. This care and support in familiar home surroundings can be a great comfort, and provide invaluable relief.

SWM are proud to support North Devon Hospice and to participate in their ‘Fund a nurse’ initiative.

SWM Managing Director Martin Mogford said, “We are pleased to be able to fund Avril, who is the hospice community nurse covering the South Molton area, because we see this as our small way of giving something back to the local community. I am also grateful to our owners who have embraced our involvement with Avril and the North Devon Hospice. As part of the initiative Avril shared a ‘Day in the Life’ talk that has boosted staff engagement and allowed us to share common goals outside of our normal business objectives. We are very proud to be supporting the hospice and would encourage other businesses and individuals to get involved.”
