Pluss work with over 500 employers across Plymouth. The Pluss Plymouth ‘Employer of the Year’ is designed to recognise employers achievements based on outcomes, rather than just policy and good intentions.
Our winners have demonstrated flair and flexibility when it comes to employing disabled people – and in doing so they have reaped the business benefits by getting fantastic staff. Deciding upon our winners was not easy. We had a final shortlist of five (The other finalists being Plymouth City Bus, Wrigley, Smyths Toy store and Tesco in Higher Compton.)Joint winners were SWM and Plymouth Citybus
The award was presented to Martin Mogford of SWM at a Disability Confident event held at the National Marine Aquarium, by Gary Streeter, MP for South West Devon. Over 120 Plymouth employers attended the event.
Martin Mogford, Operations Director at SWM, is an absolute breath of fresh air. He doesn’t see disability as a barrier, and focuses on people’s abilities and how they can fit into his business.
SWM initially offered numerous work experience opportunities for our customers so they could trial the environment and job. This was a huge success and, as a result, SWM has now employed four customers in Plymouth - one of whom is in his mid sixties.
Martin has been open and creative with recruitment. He is flexible, accommodating and encourages staff to achieve their potential and fulfil their goals.
