SWM drive sustainable growth

Leading independent South West waste and recycling company SWM are continuing to expand and are eager to limit their impact on the environment as well as the impact of the waste that they handle.

Managing Director Martin Mogford said ‘We’re keen to practice what we preach and long term sustainability is the order of the day both internally and externally. That’s why we have invested in a state of the art electric vehicle to complement our fleet’.

The i3 is part of BMWs grand plan to become the most sustainable luxury brand in the world and has seen BMW become a pioneer in the green space.

Martin continued “SWM were attracted to the i3 as it is a car that not only is emissions-free but assembled using wind power, constructed of carbon fiber that is produced in a plant using hydropower, and has an interior made with recycled materials. The i3 is the smallest of BMW's family of sustainable cars and provides an ideal way for SWM to travel around the local area with the least impact on the environment.

It seems more and more companies are appreciating the value of being environmentally aware, sensitive and leading edge.’

In addition to this investment SWM are recruiting apprentices to work in a supported learning environment and develop the skills and knowledge to help them to complete their qualifications and secure employment and progress in their career.

SWM offer a development programme leading to a National Vocational Qualification as part of their apprenticeship.  Apprentices will actively participate in their own development plan alongside their line manager and the assessor from the training provider.  They will use information technology systems to carry out duties in the most efficient and effective manner.

SWM, HR Manager Julie Brown added  ‘Successful candidates will undertake training and constructively take part in meetings and other events designed to improve communication and assist with the effective development of the role.
